The NLYFA Cheerleading Program

The NLYFA Jr. Knights and Jr. Warriors Cheerleading & Poms program is open to all girls in 1st through 8th grade.  It is designed to provide a positive learning environment that focuses on having fun, building self-esteem, and teaching valuable cheerleading, dance, and teamwork skills.

No previous cheerleading, tumbling, dance, or poms experience is required. Our program offers a range of activities including cheering/performing at football games, spirit rallies and competition(s) for all of the girls.

The NLYFA cheerleading season begins with practices in late July.   Practice, games and competition(s) run through the middle of November.  Practice for Superlight (1st and 2nd Grade), Lightweight (3rd and 4th grade), Jr. Varsity (4th and 5th grade) and Varsity (7th and 8th grade) will be 4 evenings a week from 7/28/14 - 8/17/14 and then will be 2 evenings a week during the school year.

* Extra practices may be called as competition(s) approaches on an “as needed” basis determined by you Cheer Coach.*

The NLYFA football games are every Wednesday night (except Varsity) and one per weekend starting from 8/16/14 through early November, dependent upon football team playoffs. Competition date(s) to be announced.

New cheerleaders sign up to cheer for the NLYFA and upon registration, will be placed in a lottery and assigned to either the Jr. Knights or the Jr. Warriors, as size is needed. The process of the lottery is to ensure equally balanced rosters on both sides of our organization.  You will be contacted by a Cheer Director once your daughter is placed on a squad.

Cheer Clinic

The NLYFA Cheer Program is excited to be hosting a Cheer Stunting Clinic for all of our Lightweight, Jr. Varsity, and Varsity Cheerleading Squads  -- date to be announced.

Our Philosophy

The New Lenox Youth Football Association is a member of the River Valley Football League and is hereafter known as NLYFA. The NLYFA is dedicated to providing a safe, productive and competitive learning environment for boys and girls. The NLYFA is committed to providing experienced adult volunteers who are passionate about teaching the fundamentals of football and cheerleading. Every decision we make begins with, "what is in the best interests of the child." The goal of NLYFA and the River Valley Football League is to provide the highest quality football and cheerleading program available. We accomplish this goal by promoting a healthy and positive attitude in every aspect of our program.

About the NLYFA

  • Not-for-profit Organization
  • Provides Experienced Coaches
  • Quality Equipment
  • Feeder Program for the Lincoln-Way Area High Schools

Volunteers

Our organization cannot exist without volunteers who are willing to maintain a positive and exciting environment for our participating youths. The NLYFA exists for the benefit of our community's children and can only be successful through your participation. If you have questions about volunteering, please contact our president.

Volunteer Information

Our organization cannot exist without volunteers who are willing to maintain a positive and exciting environment for our participating youth.

In order to maintain your alumni status and receive your $200 volunteer refund (per family) you are required to volunteer for the organization 3 (three) times for the season per family.

Opportunities for earning volunteer credits for the league are as follows concessions, spirit wear sales, set-up, clean up, split the pot, chains, trash, committee assignments, and others as needed.

One credit must be earned in either the Concession Stand or Concession Stand Set up.

At the time of equipment handout a check made payable to the NLYFA in the amount of $200 will be collected from each family. This check will be returned to you at the time of equipment turn in once all volunteer requirements have been met.

Volunteer sign up will occur ON-LINE and you will be notified when the sign up period is open. Time frames for games are approximate and can run longer due to weather conditions or injuries on the field. Please keep this in mind when you are signing up as we need you to be there for the entire game. If you are unable sign up online OR do not sign up for the required 3 credits, you will be able to sign up on Monday& Tuesday the first week of practice. After that, volunteer jobs will be assigned and finalized. Once the assignments have been finalized all trades and switching will be done through the team parent and communicated to the Volunteer Directors. If you are unable to fulfill your assignment and have exhausted all other options you must notify your Volunteer Directors.

In order to get credit for volunteering you must check in and check out with the Volunteer Director. Failure to do will be considered a NO SHOW. This includes Standby (On Call). As per NLYFA rule, failure to complete a volunteer assignment will result in your child having their helmet/poms pulled and sitting the next game or until the assignment is made up. This will be strictly enforced.

Please note that you are signing up for what you want (first come first serve) and the game time you want. If you sign up during your child’s game, then you are expected to work then. If you do not sign up and are assigned, every effort will be made to you assign you opposite your child’s game, but there is no guarantee . There is a chance that assignments will be made during your child’s game and you will be expected to work then.

The NLYFA does NOT have a "volunteer buyout" option.
